DATE OF VISIT: April 30 to May 2, 2009
PROS: For people who think of Bangkok as a shopping Mecca, this hotel is perhaps one of the best choices. It's right in the heart of a shopping district of the city, with daily night markets that sell from souvenirs to clothes, from faux bags and watches to electronics. The buffet breakfast is superb, since you get a hearty selection of Thai, Asian and Western cuisine. The hotel staff is very nice and responsive and the rooms, well-kept. The complimentary water on each day of your stay adds a nice touch of warmth.
MINUSES: Don't ask for a room with a view because the hotel is right at the back of its bigger sister, the Baiyoke Sky, Bangkok's tallest building. And if you like Classic Bangkok (temples, palaces, the River), you might be disappointed because this hotel is far from those places and the mythical Bangkok rush-hour traffic always gets in the way.
