Cycle along the Riviera of Flowers

Cycle along the Riviera of Flowers
Yesterday was a beautiful clear day on the Ligurian coast. The temperature was 16c, not bad for January 2nd, so a seafood lunch at nearby Bussana Mare di San Remo, sitting outside on a sun deck seemed the obvious choice before strolling through Arma di Taggia where families frolicked on the beach in the winter sunshine.

But less of that, the real purpose of this post is to feature a charming bike path, with a lane for pedestrians, built on a disused railway line which runs for almost the entire length of the coastline between Ospedaletti, via San Remo and Arma di Taggia to San Lorenzo al Mare. At either end of this route you can hire a bike (about 3 € an hour) or 'fare una passeggiata' (make a walk or stroll) and enjoy the beautiful scenary along this pretty coastline.

At the moment the full route is not complete but should be completed this summer offering a unique pathway of some 24 km meandering along this coastline covered in fauna and flora. If you start from Ospedaletti, named after a 14th century hospice, the pathway heads westwards towards San Remo and San Lorenzo al Mare. The full route takes about an hour and there are loads of places to stop and admire the views, eat lunch or enjoy a snack.
