TRAVELODGE DODGE

TRAVELODGE DODGE
OK - you tell me - is this a rip off or just company greed yet again?
Hubby and I are going to a wedding reception tonight and have booked two nights at the Travelodge.
We notice that the check-time is not until 3pm and as we will be arriving about lunchtime in the area I phoned to ask if there was any chance we could be given room access early.
The very nice receptionist replied calmly and sweetly ' Yes of course you can .....for an additional £10 charge.' !!!!!!!!
My family can imagine my tone of voice as I replied '£10? To be allowed an hour or two extra access to the room? No thank you , I will just leave it as is!'
Now Travelodge might argue that their rates are cheap and it would cause them extra work to prepare the room early but I know in this case that there are vacancies there anyway and so rooms must already be prepared and waiting.
Also, to make me more cross, I find that we could have stayed at a nice hotel in the area AND WITH BREAKFAST INCLUDED for £10 less per night! Oh the pain! Us Scots don't like missing bargains.
Many times in the past I have asked hotels if we could check in early and have always found them accommodating in this respect. Is this just another ploy by large organisations to make sneaky fees on top of basic rates? Shame on you Travelodge. It would have been better for their image if the receptionist had just said that early arrival was not available. I think of many instances when they must be raking in the money from the elderly, or families with young children, or early air or train arrivals. Maybe they could change their name to 'TRAVELDODGE'
End of Rant.
