Many many things are racing through my mind at the moment – this is a state of being I’m becoming quite used to, and every now and again when I manage to calm down and become “unmanic”, I get quite proud of myself.

One thing I’ve realized is that I have a major problem with volunteering for things. I just can’t help myself. I feel compelled to be present at every activity or task that someone asks for help with. It’s compulsive – especially when there’s free food, I just can’t resist!

As a result of my rather weird addiction to doing extra work, instead of spending the last five weeks of school focussing on final projects, I have found myself running around from talk to event to story to panel to phone call to presentation … in between working on school work and trying not to go crazy. On Saturday morning, for instance, I was at the J-school at 8am with a very sick Franz, who was compelled like me to drag himself out of bed (except he was deathly ill) to present at the New Student Showcase. (The breakfast was great!) I was completely depressed by the new students, who reminded me that school is now almost over, and we are going to be very quickly replaced in the minds of our lecturers as the new group of young and eager journo’s prepare to stalk the hallways of the J-school.

Aside from that event, as well as some late afternoon work on our magazine, this weekend has offered a number of opportunities to catch up with people and relax a little. On Friday we had our closing dinner for the Women’s International Leadership Program, which was a really nice opportunity to see all the WIL girls together for one last time before we all go off in a thousand directions. After that it was off to see Luis and the gang for a birthday drink at The Heights, which is a bar on 112 and Broadway that has a great terrace. Friday was a fantastic Spring day (I was able to run in the morning in Riverside Park, fantastic!) and being outside on the terrace in such good weather was fantastic.

Saturday was busy and we ended up at Williamsburg very briefly for some dinner and a drink for Esme’s birthday (and Greg White’s and a couple of other people!), it was a bit of a J-school reunion which was fun, and I enjoyed seeing a bit of Williamsburg, which I hadn’t visited before.

The chances for us to see each other in one place (and one country!) are diminishing as the days go by …

On Sunday I experienced the highlight of a great weekend – a trip to watch the Yankees play the Cleveland Indians in the new Yankee stadium. It was so much fun! Justin organized the tickets and it was a really great, quintessential American experience. We were quite high up in the bleachers, but it was a beautiful day and we had a good view. I really enjoyed the game (and the hotdogs, and the ice-cream, and my New York Yankees cap!!) and it was such a great day. Also, the Yankees won, which helped.

At the end of the day, on our way out, a couple asked me to take their photograph by a balcony, which I duly did. After I took the pic, the boyfriend walked up to me and asked me to take another one, whispering, “I’m going to propose!” I was  a bit shocked, but proceeded to take about a million photogaphs documenting the boyfriend trying to get his girlfriend to look at him instead of the camera (she thought they were taking another picture!!), him getting down on one knee, her being shocked and saying yes and them giving each other a big ol’ kiss. It was great – I hope I did a good enough job with the pics, but I took so many that there must be at least one good one!

I am grateful everyday for these amazing experiences – going to the Yankees was really fun and I enjoyed every minute. I am still having fun at school, and the BBC is really great. Even though I’m only there one day a week I feel like I’m contributing in some small way and everyone there is really friendly. I’m still not entirely sure what the summer will bring, there are a couple of things up in the air, but here’s hoping it will bring good things.

Much love and hugs to you all!
